Columbia Water identified a water main break on Huger Street at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026. The leak has been isolated, and City of Columbia and the South Carolina Department of Transportation crews are actively working to complete the necessary repairs.
The City anticipates reopening some southbound lanes by late afternoon on Friday, September 18, 2026. Steel plates will be placed over the affected area until permanent roadway repairs can be completed, which could go into next week.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling southbound on Huger Street between Gervais Street and Senate Street while temporary steel plates are in place and until the final pavement repairs are completed.
