Water Base Charges

The City of Columbia tracks water usage in Units of 100 cubic feet.

1 Unit = 100 cubic feet
100 cubic feet = 748.052 gallons

All customers are charged a flat fee for up to the first 3 Units (2244 gallons) of water use. This fee is based on meter connection size and location (see below). Customers are then charged for each additional Unit of water they use (see below for details). Rates became effective on July 1, 2023.

Sewer Rates and Fees

All sewer customers are charged a flat fee (base fee) for a sewer connection. This fee is based on water meter connection size and location (see Table). Customers with multiple units serviced by a single meter are also charged an additional fee per unit based on location. Customers are then charged for each Unit of water they use. This rate is based on location. Rates became effective on July 1, 2023.

Additional Meter Fees by Category (Sewer)

As of August, 2012, customers with multiple units serviced by a single meter will now see two line-items on their bill where previously there was only one. The two items are the Sewer Rate and the Base Sewer Fee. Previous bills had these two items combined into a single charge. These fees are calculated as follows:

Sewer Rate = Base Meter Fee + Charges for water per Unit
Base Sewer Fee = Number of Units X Additional Unit Fee

Apartments and Trailer Parks: Sewer rates for apartments and trailer parks shall be the base rate of a single-family residence per dwelling until plus a base fee based on meter connection size plus the rate per 100 cubic feet as reflected by water consumption.

Hotels, Motels, Dormitories, and Roominghouses: Sewer rates for hotels, motels, dormitories, and roominghouses shall be one-half the base rate of a single-family residence per room plus a base fee based on meter connection size plus the rate per 100 cubic feet as reflected by water consumption.
