Annual Summer Sewer Discount for 2017 Ends in October

By September 28, 2017December 5th, 2018No Comments

Columbia, SC – September 28, 2017 – Starting in October, Columbia Water’s annual seasonal sewer discount will end for the 2017 year. Customers who use more than 1,400 cubic feet or approximately 10,500 gallons in a month will be charged the full price for sewer services on their bill.

During the hotter spring and summer months, many customers use extra water to irrigate their lawns and gardens. Columbia Water recognizes that this extra water is generally not emptying into the sewer system. For seven months of service each year, Columbia Water places a limit on the amount of water use that is charged to residential sewer bills. This sewer cap is set at 1,400 cubic feet.

“Columbia Water is one of the few water providers that cap our sewer charges during the spring and summer,” says Clint Shealy, Assistant City Manager of Columbia Water. “We recognize that our customers’ water use patterns change with the seasons, and we want to make sure our charge policies are fair and equitable by reflecting that use. But we also want people to be prepared for when the discount no longer applies at the end of the irrigation season.” The discount will no longer apply on the November bill for most customers, though some will see it end with their October bills.

Customers can determine when they will see the discount end by looking at their September bill. If the Bill Date says 1-SEP-2017 or 6-SEP-2017, the discount will no longer apply on the bill they receive in late October. All other customers will no longer have the discount starting with their November bills.
