Interested citizens are invited to provide input on how the project may affect historic properties and the ways these effects may be avoided. The meeting is scheduled for July 29, 2021 at 6:00 PM.

Columbia, SC – July 14, 2021 – In the fall of 2020, the City of Columbia/Columbia Water announced that they came to a fundamental agreement with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance program on the scope of damage to the Columbia Canal from the historic flooding that took place in the Midlands in 2015. This fundamental agreement signaled the beginning of the repair process for the canal and hydroelectric plant. FEMA PA is coordinated by the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD).

As a part of the project, FEMA must identify and consider the potential effects on historic properties while repairs are being conducted on the canal. To help facility this, FEMA is seeking input from the public on how potential adverse effects on historic properties resulting from a proposed Federal action should be addressed. The public is invited to attend a virtual meeting which is scheduled for July 29, 2021 via Zoom hosted by the City of Columbia.
